Simple Forex strategies — simple to use, easy to try out.

This collection of Forex trading strategies and techniques is dedicated to help traders in their research and developing of workable trading styles and trading systems.

Attention all traders: trading strategies are posted for their educational purpose only. Trading rules may be subject to interpretation. Planned risk levels may be increased dramatically under extreme market conditions. Use the ideas and/or modify them to suit your trading style, but only at your own risk. We recommend testing your trading system on a demo account before investing real money.

Simple trading systems are good for skilled beginners and intermediate traders, but may not suit more experienced traders. Either way, do not skip those strategies as they will preserve consistency in your learning progress. Advanced strategies were all at some point simple, but later were improved by traders. So, learning the basic ideas behind simple strategies will help you in the long run to advance in your own strategy making.

We hope you enjoy staying with us!

Edward Revy and my best Forex strategies Team.

As you read comments, you'll see that when traders asked me to recommend any particular strategies on this website, I did so. However, from that time all simple strategies have been sorted and moved around, so the old numbering in my answers can be irrelevant for simple strategies. Another point is that every time a new strategy is added, it can be much better than those I recommended to try out months or years ago. So, just take you time and explore our great strategies collection!

The Simplest Forex Trading Strategy in the World.

If someone asked me to describe my trading strategy in a s few words as possible, it would be this; horizontal levels and price a ction. Indeed, trading price action setups from horizontal levels is the “core” component of my trading theory an d strategy, and if you were to take away only one thing from my website it would be that you can learn to trade the market effectively by simply drawing the core levels on your charts and waiting for obvious price action signals to form around them.

After you finish reading this lesson, leave a comment, like it on facebook, tweet it on twitter and share it with others. :)

Why are horizontal levels so important?

If you want to learn to trade a “naked” price chart, you’ll need to learn about two things at minimum; price action and horizontal levels. Everything in the market starts with a horizontal line; this is the back-bone of my trading approach as well as the trading approach of many other great traders. Indeed, traders like George Soros, Warren Buffet, Jesse Livermore and others, all pay (paid) close attention to the key levels in the market, because they know that these levels are significant and can thus have a strong impact on the direction of price.

Horizontal levels help with timing and they provide “value areas” that can help you define your risk by giving you a price level to place your stop loss beyond. I have been a disciplined trader of levels combined with price action for years; probably about 80% of my trades involve an obvious “core” horizontal level combined with a price action signal. Horizontal levels provide us with a confluent area to trade from, but they are not the only factor of confluence that I look for; the more factors of confluence you have lining up with a price action signal the better. However, I do consider horizontal levels to be the “core” piece of confluence in my trading strategy and I want to show you guys some examples of how I use horizontal lines and price action to trade the markets. Ready? Let’s go…

Examples of trading with horizontal lines and price action signals:

I teach a plethora of price action trading confirmation signals in my course that I combine with levels and the trend, here’s a few examples of how I trade price action signals with obvious horizontal levels in the market.

• Trading horizontal lines in trending markets with price action from “swing points”

My favorite way to trade with horizontal lines is to trade them in trending markets from swing points. As markets trend, they create horizontal levels as they ebb and flow, these levels are what I call “swing points”, and we can find very high-probability trade setups by watching for price action forming from these swing points in the market.

Look at the illustration below, note how the market is trending higher and as it makes new highs it also creates resistance when it falls away from these highs, then as it pulls back the previous high / resistance actually turns into support (swing point). Thus, old resistance becomes new support in an uptrend, and in a down trend old support becomes new resistance, also known as swing points.

The way that we take advantage of these horizontal level swing points, is to watch for price action strategies forming near them as the market pulls back. Look at the blue circles in the illustration above, these are the swing points at which you want to watch for obvious price action signals forming, then you are trading from a confluent point of “value” within a trending market.

• Trading horizontal lines in range-bound markets with price action.

Another excellent way to trade horizontal lines in the market is to simply watch for price action setups forming near the boundaries of a range-bound market. Unfortunately, markets do not always trend like we want them to, instead, they often swing between support and resistance in a trading range. Fortunately, trading with simple price action setups allows us to trade in any market condition, so we can still find high-probability trade setups even in range-bound market conditions.

In the illustration below we can see an example of what a range-bound market might look like. When price is obviously bouncing back and forth between a horizontal support and resistance level, we can wait for price to hit one of the boundaries of the range and then watch for price action signals forming there. This provides us with a very high-probability entry scenario and a very simple trading strategy. It also gives us obvious levels to define our risk and reward. Risk is defined just beyond the trading range high or low from the boundary you are entering near, and reward is defined near the opposite end of the trading range.

• Trading “event area” horizontal lines with price action.

Event areas are horizontal lines that can be very high-probability areas to watch for price action setups forming near. Essentially, when a major price event occurs in a market, like an inside bar breakout or a pin bar reversal, price creates an “event area” at this horizontal level. You will notice that these event areas are significant most of the time because price will often stall or reverse as it re-tests them.

In the illustration below we can see an example of the creation of an event area as well as how it could subsequently be traded. Essentially, any price action signal can create an event area if it sets off a substantial move from the event area / horizontal level. In the example below we can see an inside bar breakdown occurred and then price came back and re-tested this event-area / horizontal level. As price re-tests the event area we would watch closely for price action signals, as the formation of a price action signal at an event area is a very high-probability event.

However, event areas also provide us with the ability to enter without confirmation from price action. This is a more advanced strategy that I teach in my price action trading course, but it is possible to enter “blindly” at the event area as price comes back to re-test it, that is to say without confirmation from price action.

• Real-life examples of trading price action at horizontal levels.

Finally, I wanted to show you guys a real chart of the EURUSD and analyze its recent price action and horizontal levels to show how you could have used simple horizontal levels with price action to trade the market.

1) Note the trading range that the EURUSD was in for about 3 months earlier this year. Price was bouncing back and forth between resistance near 1.4550 and support near 1.4100 – 1.4000. We didn’t get a lot of signals in this range, but there were at least three good pin bars that formed off the support of the range that traders could have made some very good money on.

2) Next, as the trading range formed and the pin bars developed along support, we got an event area forming around 1.4100 – 1.4000. As price began to move lower from the top of the trading range before it broke out, it formed a long-tailed pin bar and then an inside bar right at this event area. Thus, a break of the pin bar low meant a break of the event area and we can see a significant move followed.

3) Next, we can see an inside bar and a pin bar setup that formed as the market trended lower. These setups both formed at horizontal levels and we can see they resulted in large moves to the downside that provided good risk reward ratios for savvy price action traders.

In closing, trading horizontal levels with price action signals is the primary technique that I use to analyze and trade the market. It is essentially the “foundation” of my trading strategy and I believe it truly is the “simplest trading strategy in the world”, as well as the most effective. It is obvious that horizontal levels are very important in the market, and by combining them with my price action strategies you have a very effective and simple trading strategy. If you want to learn more about how I use horizontal lines and price action, as well as my other trading strategies, check out my price action trading course here.

Feel fortunate to have found this site after some five diligent months of forex study. From today, I’ll pay close attention to PA and S/R levels in my trading – and am sure (and hope) that it will bring me success that has eluded me so far. Indeed when I have a cash sum in my account = 2 x your course fees, I’ll enrol to be your student! No doubt about it.

Thanks Nial. I was watching a review on the eurusd the other day and noted how many horizontal lines she used. Thanks for sharing this lesson which has enriched and added value to my trading.

Thank you so much Nial for these weekly articles, I look forward to receiving them as they are always so informative and inspirational, with no BS, just honest, raw knowledge. Thank you so much and please keep them coming!

Great Article Nial and thanks for the illustrations with charts.

A realy good refresher lesson for me, it realy is about keeping it simple.

NAIL! Thank you for sharing your valuable experience.

It is really simple and most effective strategy. I enjoyed.

REGARDS, AMIN MALIK.

Great stuff I shall practice this stratigy.

very very helpful and very clear. this is amazing how u have made trading really really easy. u sure have got a big heart kz i dont know many people who go this far to help out novice traders such as myself. thank you so much and God bless u.

Bro! I really don’t know how to thank you, but God will surely bless you for giving us the simple thing that most forex product vendors use to squeeze out our little hard-earned income. Kudos.

Hope you are well. Thank you very much for another fantastic and superb lesson where in which you have shared your priceless insight.

Thank you for all your help.

Thanks and Regards.

Thanks for spending the effort to put up an enriching article like this. Once again, I have learnt something new and it has reinforced the concept on resistance support together with price action.

Please continue to provide us with great article like this to help us to do better in this trading business.

You have expanded it for me. I found this horizontal out by self discovery. It was making money for me, but indisciplined emotion made me not to continue using it to mastery. Thank you for getting me out of my slumber as my mentor.

Fantastic lesson. Keep it simple ! Thanks. Nail!! All the best for you!!

Thanks mr nial for another wonderful insight, the combination of this methods with patience and discipline will guarantee success.

That would have to be one of your best lessons so far. You make it sound so simple. I will pay more close attention to S/R from now on.

Thanks again Colin.

After 18 months of trying to find a strategy that works for me, I’ve found it, yours. Thanks a million (pips). John.

You’re absolutely spot on. There is nothing like simple.

thanks Nail, i am newbie and new fan of you, thanks again.

I was thrilled, not many understand. that those gold falls from the mouth or actually from the pen.

I am a stock day trader using all your price action set ups and getting success day by day.

I have some query for you about support and resistance levels and i. e. …….

Can one use previous session’s closing level, current session’s opening level and current session’s average traded price level(ATP),as core levels for current session’s intra day trading ?

Awaiting your response anxiously.

Price action coupled with daily charts, using horizontal lines, it doesn’t get much simpler for applying a set & forget strategy. It’s all that I use. Having a pro back me up is the icing on the cake.

I’m really impressed at the amount of updated content you provide Nial. It’s hard to keep up with. It’s all there but.

There’s certainly nothing set & forget about the way you conduct your business.

clear explanation and concentrated wisdom. I think, especially last few months is very hard for everyone trade intraday because of confuse and very volatile movements of the market and is necessary to use daily charts. Your articles are my most favorite. Please continue. Thanks.

I must agree with Bel – patience and discipline – … loosing bad trading habits from last year when I didn’t know Price Action is really big challenge.

Great stuff as always. Sometimes being reminded of the basics and making sure I adhering to them is more important and valuable a trading lesson than learning about more sophisticated pattern recognition.

Plain vanilla support / resistance (horizontal levels) and ‘obvious’ price action. You just can’t beat it. (unless you add “R” to your rules!)

all the best & keep up the excellent work.

Thanks for your support Nial. You’re the best trading coach out there.

I have been using price action, support & resistance since monday. i have made 909 pips, when i only make a single trade a day. Thanks to your articles.

Excellent lesson Nial, really insightful and simple. But beneath the simplicity we really need to develop our skill at spotting event areas combined with price action confirmations. Many thanks and all the best for you Nial, and please keep enlighten us.

I wonder if you ever use Fibonacci retracement levels as further weight and confirmation for these horizontal levels?

I’ve heard big players = big moves(i. e. banks etc) use them a lot!

Your explanation is always clear and simple. Whenever I open my laptop I check for any RSS updates of your website for some knowledge:)

Thanks for another Great Artical Nial! I really enjoy your teachings!

You always mange to keep me on track.

Thanks Nail. Good insight.

Thanks again for sharing your wisdom, experience & knowledge. Your daily commentaries & constant trading lessons are invaluable.

This is a great article, it is how I am trading & it really does work. The hardest part is being patient & disciplined !!

Don’t give up on us, please keep providing us with information :)

Another methode of trade.

is there a way to determine what the average daily range is for a given currency pair and therefore to understand which price points it bounces off of on a regular basis?

Good Refresher on Horizontal Levels. Thanks!

Hi Nial, I’ve been a member for over six months and I’m a huge fan of the way you explain it…

This article is really insightful, and I really appreciate your genuine passion in sharing your strategies that actually work and more members should share how its working for them too… I look forward to seeing many more!!

K. I.S. S. – ‘Keep it Simple Stupid Forex Trading Method’

The acronym K. I.S. S. stands for Keep It Simple Stupid. This acronym is as applicable to the field of Forex trading as it is to any. ‘Keeping it simple’ in regards to your Forex trading means keeping all aspects of your Forex trading simple, from the way you think about price movement to the way you execute your trades .

Simplicity is the most often and easily overlooked ingredient to profiting long-term in any financial market. I’m sure you have probably tried using complicated and (or) expensive trading methods at some point and subsequently realized that they weren’t working how you had thought. This article will help you understand why people tend to over-complicate Forex trading and how you can use the power of simplicity to your advantage.

The truth about Forex trading.

So you’re excited about the latest and greatest programmed indicator that has been getting a lot of attention in the trading forums you visit regularly. You just know that this one will work because the returns that its creators have posted look absolutely brilliant, and you can’t wait to try it out. That last indicator-based method didn’t work as you expected it to, but this new one seems like it makes a lot more sense and all the testimonials you’ve read just can’t be wrong…

Many traders have had similar experiences to the one above; they think that by trying enough trading systems and forex indicators, eventually they will hit upon that one that is their automatic ticket to consistently profiting in the markets. This belief is exactly what causes many traders to blow out their accounts time and time again only to find themselves full of frustration and confusion. Simply put, there is no ‘free lunch’ in trading , still, many traders think by finding that one great trading system or indicator they can sit back and watch the money roll on. The truth is that nothing that is fully systematic will ever be a truly effective way to trade the forex market because the market is not a static entity that can be tamed through black box mechanical systems. It is a volatile beast that is driven from human emotion, and human beings vary in their emotional reactivity to specific events, especially when their money is on the line.

The fact is, that while almost all traders would say they want to make trading a simple process, they are going about it in the totally wrong manner. Trading can only become simple once you forget about the idea of finding a perfect indicator-based trading system that will work in all market conditions. Markets are just too volatile and complex to ever be dominated by a piece of software code or a mechanical set of trading rules.

How do you “Keep It Simple”?

How does one keep their Forex trading simple? Well, no pun intended…it’s actually pretty simple; STOP looking for the next “perfect” Holy-Grail trading system and START looking at the price bars on your charts. By learning to read price action on a raw, “naked” price chart, you are learning an art and a skill at the same time. The “art” part of the trading equation is what allows some traders to make a full time living in the markets while the masses who are struggling to find the next best indicator system continue to lose money by trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, so to speak.

Learning the art and skill of price pattern recognition will provide you with a perspective and not a system. This market perspective is what would be considered a trading “method”; many people use the terms “method” and “system” synonymously when referring to trading techniques, however, they are really two entirely different things. A trading method provides you with a way to make sense of daily market movement, whether the market is trending or consolidating, where as a trading system is a strict set of rules that allow for little to no degree of human discretion.

How did famous traders like George Soros, Jesse Livermore, and Warren Buffet make their millions (and billions) in the markets? Not through complicated trading software or lagging indicator based trading methods, but through a discretionary market perspective that was developed through an awareness of price dynamics and market conditions in the various markets they traded.

Clean vs Messy.

The purpose of this article is to help you understand that you can use simple price action setups to successfully trade the forex market. Professional Forex traders all have one thing in common; they keep their trading as simple as possible because they know that they need a calm and clear mindset to make money in the market. However, most beginning traders, and many experienced but unsuccessful traders, take the complete opposite approach to trading the markets; they make it as complicated as possible.

The K. I.S. S method, as it relates to Forex trading, is built upon an understanding that the best way to navigate the market is by learning to interpret and trade the raw price action signals that form naturally in the market. By trying to force a set of strict indicator based trading rules around the unbounded arena of financial markets, many traders unknowingly make trading infinitely more complicated and difficult than it ever needs to be.

In the example chart below, we can see a clean and simple price action chart with no indicators.

In the example chart below, we can see the chart is very cluttered and messy with many indicators that will confuse you and distract you from the price action below…

If the power of simplicity in Forex trading was not clear to you yet, analyzing the charts above should make it more than obvious to you. I have seen many beginning and struggling traders try to trade with charts that look like the second one above with all the indicators on it. To be honest, I’ve seen traders trying to trade on charts that actually have more indicators than the example above…believe it or not.

As humans, we seem to have an almost innate tendency to make the easiest part of trading (chart analysis and finding trades) a lot more difficult and complicated than it needs to be. Once you accept the fact that chart analysis does not have to be difficult, it will help you to focus more clearly on the more difficult aspects of trading like remaining disciplined and managing your risk properly. Don’t be like the legions of other traders out there who waste a massive amount of time and money trying to figure out what a mess of different indicators and trading robots are trying to tell them. Learn to analyze the raw price action that the market naturally provides you with and you will be much further along the path to trading success than people trying to trade on charts like the one above.

Conclusion:

Now that you have a basic understanding of the why and the how of the KISS method, you can begin to work on practicing its implementation. Practice trading specific price action strategies combined with support and resistance levels for at least 3 months on a demo account, or until you are consistently profitable, before attempting any of this on a real money account. Keep in mind that trading is inherently risky and this information is for educational purposes only and it is not met as a recommendation to buy or sell any financial instrument. That being said, if you are dead set on becoming a profitable and consistent forex trader, stick with the KISS forex trading method and master the concepts outlined in this article and in my Forex trading course, and you will begin to see that profitable trading does not need to be complicated.

Thanks for the KISS lesson you simplified the trading method and approach for me and agree with the practice on demo account until you guild a confidence level about trading. I will follow your lessons as I opted to subscribe.

i am one of many of your student that I read your article and commentary everyday, and I appriciate it. This year I will be consistent profitable and successful trader. and all is because of you. Thank you 1000 times. May God bless you and your whole families.

Good advice, you have alot of goodies. Will take your course. Have been on forex for a decade now and i know how not to win but the pain of loosing is always on my shoulders.

I’ve been trading for real for 3.5 months after Demo trading for about 6 months. My real win rate is at 60%, but I find your site/articles ring really true and this is a step-up from Baby Pips to a slightly higher level (for me) of knowledge and experience. I have hitherto traded H4, H1, using some indicators to confirm my trades, and using Weekly and Daily charts for major trends (this improved my win rate significantly) and using M5 and M1 to find entry points. I’m still working through your articles etc, and will probably do an online course with you when I have finished all of this. It’s a very big change for me to now focus on Daily charts only. So, thank you for your advice, expertise and I hope to give you some good news soon! Kind regards David.

Thanks for the article. You always hit the nail on its head Nial. You are the Guru.

I used to love seeing my 2 flashy moving averages 25 and 50 emas on my chart and trade pullbacks on those trends but now i only use 2 indicators on my chart which is candlesticks and fractals just for trailing profits. I do a lot better with just these 2, priceaction trading is the best!

Price Action is the greatest. Learn to read candles and you will never be broke.

Thanks for your work, Nial.

Great , thanks a lot mentor Nial…

It is excellent article.

u are d man, u change my life.

Tthere is none like you Nial Fuller in Trade knowledge, i have made 10 trades and so far, i have made minimal losses in 2 and mega profits in 8. Guys this strategy real works.

I will forever be grateful, and will sure tell everyone willing to listen about you.

– Question: what is the Strategy that this chap Grace is referring to?

Very nice article. After reading your article I realized that I am so focused on support and resistance that I am missing the signals occuring within a strong trend. This site is the best! I just pulled in my first 1 to 2 risk reward trade ever!

The lesson is fantastic. Thanks very much. We are expecting more.

Your price action strategy is really very simple and it works! Thank you for all your support and articles..

amen to all the above! I had so many indicators at one stage i truly did not know where to look and got soooo confused did not know when and where to put my bid on! On the other hand Nial is soooo correct when he talks about human emotions and humans driving markets. I personaly noticed when the “cowboys” = USA traders come onto the market the whole hell gets lose and gods help you if you are sitting on a trade when they decide to move every currency in the opposite direction to yours!…hahaha…and charts and templates and systems be damn….well – that has been my experience up to date…so YES…KISS is wonderful plus to remember to stay away in those “crazy” times. -))

hi, nail, I m very grateful, thank u very much, GOD bless you in Jesus name, concerning your course, I need to get myself ready, thanks nail.

I’ve been successful in my trading for the past weeks. Tnx Nial!

i’m so free now to trade the market. i ‘ve been 1 year to finding a good indicators and system.

your articles and videos are very simple.

Trading must be art, kiss :*

Thanks for the Lesson, am a new trader still on my virtual account but catching up through this lessons.

You are a breath of fresh air to Forex traders. Can’t wait to join your (and the community’s)ranks later this month. Really like the emphasis you place on simplicity, money management as well as one’s disipline…Larry.

Thanks for the help. I’m turned off to the webinares if the charts are all cluttered. I’ll continue to study the clear, simple charts.

I totally agreed that price action setup is a very simple technic to use. However, I must say that the trader must be patient to wait for the signals to appear. KISS is important. Thanks for the tips!

Tthere is none like you Nial Fuller in Trade knowledge, i have made 10 trades and so far, i have made minimal losses in 2 and mega profits in 8. Guys this strategy real works.

I will forever be grateful, and will sure tell everyone willing to listen about you.

thank you very much i will work with you, i am a victim of indicator overdose.

Price action can “set and relax”. thank you Nial,

Thanks for this post Nial. Great job showing us how “simple” is the best way.

Einstein quote for the day: “Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex… It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.”

Your in good company with your trading principles.

Thanks for the insights you give.

Hello Mr. Fuller.

I browsed through this article simply because “Price Action” is where it is at. K. I.S. S.

Thanks a lot for this info. Keep ’em coming.

Thank you so much for this information. It makes perfect sense. Thank you.

Thank you very much. It is so nice you give us excellent Method. Thank you for your hard working for us.

According to contemporary poet, David Whyte, the greatest suicide note ever written was the following “I simply could not simplify my life”.

Hi Nial, To be honest, i do really feels that your articles are making me very much exuberant, in the trading field. Hats of to your guidance, and seriously will recommend others to view it. Cheers Mate.

Thanks for your lesson(s). This article has given me more time to do things other than watching the screen all day.

Hey Nial, thanks for all your exhaustive efforts to help educate new and/or struggling traders (myself being one). I am a member of the community and must say it’s the best thing I’ve done for my trading. To complicate it with more indicators and “tekky” software would be destructive. Learning price action is truly an art and skill. I have learned much about myself through this course. Why would anyone not want to simplify ? The Beast is beautiful and uncaring. But it can provide you with a wonderful lifestyle. Thanks again.

Yes, I must agree with k. i.s. s.. not only does it allow you to have more time to analyze the market, it also makes forex a more pleasant profession to deal with.

I have never won 30pips until I adapted to your method.

Thanks a lot Nial!

thanks for your lessons so far it has realy helped me develope my trading systm;nail still have a problem because i use instante execution;plz yteach me how to use pending other with sl and tp. cous i have tried it in my demo but it cuoldent worke out for me. thanks i remain greatful.

Hello Nial, I wrote a comment a few weeks ago but can’t find it, so I don’t know if you commented. Anyway, good information. One question, to what time do you adjust your charts and do you think it makes a difference. Local time, NY time, etc. Thanks.

you need a broker that has 5 daily price bars per week and combines Sunday with Monday, You see for the real world, Sunday is not a real trading day because it is in effect Monday in New Zealand when the markets open, so it makes no sense to have 6 bars on the chart for a market which is truly 5 days not 6. You would need a broker which offers a new york close for the time server feed for the data. Not many do. Contact me via ‘contact us’ menu above for more details.

Nial, yes, thanks also for the linking to this article. There were two sentences that stuck a chord with me. If i may quote you:

“Markets are just too volatile and complex to ever be dominated by a piece of software code.”

“Not through complicated trading software or lagging indicator based trading methods…”

It has only been about 1 month since i “ditched” all my technical analysis indicators on my demo account. Prahaps i can not use the TA tools properly.. maybe? I did double a demo account using pivot points, but soon lost it all again!

Now, i would dread having all of that “scribble” all over my charts. (I have worked out a “tweak” to physically remove TA indicators from the MT4 platform :)

The interesting point is that the lower chart (with indicators & oscillators etc) actually hides most of the definative pin bars. The first pin bar that you highlighted is *virtually hidden* by the grid background. Amazing, so all the technical analysis guys wont even see these kinds of setups. Thats fine by me!

What a joy it is to actually feel like i am understanding the chart and the price action. Keep up your good work Nial… all the best, Max, near London, England.

Thanks for your feedback, make sure you pay it forward and tell the world about me and the site, the aim is to help those that need it, cheers.

thanks for a great article, timming is excelent . and I certainly agree, KISS.

you know Nial, it is funny that i do not even look at the moving averages anymore. My trading is definitely on the up swing. Simple is the rule. thnks.

no doubt about it Nial, if I only knew about this 3 years ago when I had some capital to play with.

I won’t go spouting off like many people do and say I have it all figured out now, and the markets are a breeze. I will say this, my trading has improved greatly since a friend set me up with your articles and youtube videos. I’ve been studying and happily trading price action ever since. My guilty pleasure is one Simple Moving Average…. Otherwise I’m clean.

this article is the bomb.

I work with the price action too and i like your site that i consult every morning.

i work with price action in the daily chart for big operation – minimum 100 pips each – and also intrady with the 15m time frame for multi small 20 pips each – .

I see that the 15m, 1h eand daily tf in forex market have good results.

I’d like if u will answer to my post and keep in touch.

Bye man and… Keep it real simple!

Arduino from Italy.

Glad you sent this link to me. The article itself is nothing but KISS. You have put forth the concept so clearly and lucidly that even a layman like me can understand and learn something.

How To Create A Solid Forex Strategy.

One biggest mistake for many new traders is starting to trade Forex without a solid Forex trading strategy.

The Forex market is really attractive because it operates 24 hrs a day and you can trade when the market is going up or when the market is going down and in the eagerness to make money, or prove themselves they dive headlong into trading.

Does that mean the beginner Forex traders cant make money?

Yes, you can make money trading Forex…and its if you are a beginner trader and you get into Forex trading and start making money right away, you should be very careful to let ego overcome you.

You can make a fortune trading currencies in the short term but soon this will lead to a bad psychology and trading discipline problems and you’ll end up blowing up your forex trading account.

Good trading discipline, psychology and humility are only achieved through experience.

To be successful in Forex trading, you’v got to have a strategy/plan in place which you must follow.

Creating or finding a Forex trading strategy is very important as this addresses the following:

Reason for taking the trade: why buy or sell? And what currency pair? Timing of the trade: why buy now? should you buy or sell after economic news release? Asian session, London session? New York session? Trading objective: what’s the profit target? What’s your stop loss? Money management? How much are you risking per trade? Per day? Documenting and analyzing your trading results? This identifies your strengths are well as weaknesses .

What is your reason for entering a trade?

And there should be a really good reason!

If you are entering a trade out of boredom or just the need to take a trade for the excitement, this is a recipe for disaster.

Nothing feels more worse than entering a trade and watching a trade turn into a loss when you precisely know you should not have taken that trade in the first place!

Every trade should be taken based on a condition that’s been stated in your trading strategy, whether it be a technical reason or fundamental reason or both. Follow what your trading strategy says.

Best Forex Scalping Strategies.

If you are thinking of Forex scalping, you must have balls of steel and really high concentration and don’t even try to blink too (just kidding).

Here are some Forex scalping systems and strategies on this site:

What Is Forex Scalping?

Forex scalping is a day trading technique where Forex trader executes a trade and exit within minutes or seconds on some cases.

So essentially, when you a forex scalp trader, you are not looking for big profit targets, you are looking for very small profit targets per trade like 5 pips, 1o pips or even 15 pips. And you are trying to take many trades throughout the trading session with these small profit targets.

So what’ the point of Forex scalping then?

Well, here’ the thing: the goal of the FX scalper is to make many trades throughout the trading session and hope that in the end, all those small profits will add up and exceed the trading losses incurred (and take care of spread costs for trading).

Many Forex trader do not like Forex scalping because they see no point in going for very small profits and being involved with this kind of high pressure trading environment.

But the funny thing is that hare are many trader that do like Forex scalping. If you are interested, this forex website also has forex scalping strategies which you can check them out and try if you like by clicking here.

3. Forex Currency News Trading Strategies.

Then there are also Forex news trading systems here.

If’ you’d like to trade non farm payroll or interest rates decisions or employment/unemployment figures that are released monthly, these forex news trading strategies and systems are what you should be using.

Trading news can be both profitable and extremely risky as well.

If you don’t know what to do, do not trade news. You can wipe your trading account within a few seconds to minutes because price can move against you so fast you will be caught out.

But if you are not using Forex news trading strategies and then these days, its best to check everyday before you trade what major economic news releases are scheduled to be out and then decide if you wait until the news is released then trade or just simply wait for another day.

These are Forex trading strategies where you can use to trade forex news:

Almost similar to complex forex trading strategies, the advanced forex trading strategies do take a bit of getting used to.

4 Essential Elements Of A Forex Trading Strategy.

What is a Forex trading strategy (system)?

A forex trading strategy is simply a set of rules telling you when to buy or sell when certain market conditions are met in order to make a profit.

Any forex trading strategy should have these 4 core but basic elements:

the condition(s) that should trigger you to buy or sell. where to place your stop loss order , where to place take profit target and the system should have rules on how to manage a trade.

That’s the definition of a what a forex trading strategy is.

If a a trading system that does not have any one of these core elements, the you are going to be left confused in implementation.

To put simply, forex market can be said to be chaotic. So to have order in a chaotic market, you got to have rules.

Let me give you a brief overview of what is in them…

In this way, you can actually see the “before” and “after” situation of price action at work and I hope that this will give you a better understanding of trading price action.

Forex Trading Strategies That Work.

Every forex trader is different…what you like is not what I like. What you think is the best Forex trading strategy for me will not be the same.

This question is left for each individual Forex trader. You need to find the Forex trading strategy that fits your trading personality and when you do…then that would be your best forex trading strategy (in my opinion).

Therefore, if you are looking for Forex trading strategies that work , just understand that one system cannot work for all.

I may like price action trading but you may like to use indicators in your trading system. You need to research and test and find out what type of forex trading strategies and systems work for you simply because every body is different.

I’f you like moving average forex trading strategies, there’s lots of them on this site. If you like scalping Forex trading strategies, they are here to.

If you like news trading strategies, they are here to. If you like day trading strategies and systems, there are here to.

If you like swing trading strategies and system, many of the strategies here are swing trading systems.

All you need to do is find one that you like and make that Forex trading strategy work for you.

Or if you don’t find a Forex system that you like but there’s one that you “sort of like” but still does not really fit..then why not tweak it?

Why not change it by combining a few different trading techniques or ideas from “this trading system” and “that trading system” and then make a trading system you are satisfied with?

Nobody’s going to stop you.

Now, lets say that after you’ve found your Forex strategy that you like…what do you do next? Well, open a demo trading account with a Forex broker and test out the system to see how it works in real live market conditions.

That’s the only way you know how the forex trading system will work. All trading strategies and systems may look nice on this site but if you like on trading system, you really need to test it out.

Then once you’ve are satisfied, then you can start trading with real money.

This is where the fun begins…trading with live money.

How many Forex trading strategies do you need?

If you prefer to trade only one type of trading setup then you’d only need on forex trading system.

But if you like to trade different market conditions then having several solid forex trading systems for each of the different market conditions is essential.

if the market is in a trend, then you’d be using a trend trading system if the market is in consolidation or in a range, you’d have to use a range trading system if the market is getting to major support or resistance levels, you may have to switch to using a support and resistance trading system.

So its really up to the forex trader to decide. If you are beginner forex traders, I suggest you just pick only one forex trading and stick to it.

Forex Day Trading Strategies.

If you are keen on day trading, there are so many forex day trading strategies you can find for free here and adapt them to suit your day trading style.

You just have to use your imagination: if a forex trading strategy is based on the daily timeframes, why not change the timeframe down to 15 minutes and see if it works in that smaller scale timeframe as well?

So if you see a forex trading system saying that “its is suitable for trading using only the daily timeframes,” that does not mean its written in concrete.

You can try that trading strategy in a much smaller timeframe so you can day trade.

Forex Trading Basics.

Similarly, if you are a man with a 9-5 job and trading Forex, sometimes its hard to trade while at work, right? Why not find a forex trading strategy that does not take a lot of time and that system is like a “SET AND FORGET TRADING SYSTEM.”

Well, there are forex trading strategies here that fit that criteria…you only need to trade once a day and check for the setup once a day.

If time is what you don’t have, I believe finding such a forex trading strategy will help you achieve the aim of trading forex while working.

Otherwise you will always have to hit the “boss key” when somebody comes around to your desk at work!

Swing Trading vs Day Trading?

Every forex trader is different. Some like trading shorter time frames and keeping their traders open for shorter periods which means day trading technique sort of comes into play here.

But then there are forex traders that are swing traders…

Swing traders are those traders that take a trade and have a much medium to longer term outlook. This means a trade can be opened and it may take a day to week or even months before the trade is closed. Swing traders like to wait for the trade to play out…how long it might take depends on price action and market movement really.

The advantage of swing trading therefore is the fact that, all the minor price fluctuation in smaller timeframes (which is the domain of the day trader) is ignored and a larger long term view is held regarding each trade that is placed.

The advantage of swing trading therefore are these:

trades held for days, weeks and months mean a lot more profit minor price noise is irrelevant trades are often entered at swing points, which are in most cases, present really low risk, high reward trade entry points.

The only main disadvantage of swing trading is you’ve sometimes have to maintain the trade even in its up and down swings of price as it heads towards your profit target.

The advantages of day trading are these:

profits or loss realized in a shorter timeframe during the day. much more trading opportunities can be found during the day.

The disadvantages of day trading are these:

small profits for each trade potential to over-trade high pressure and hectic trading environment and need to be on constant alert to scan your trading charts for setups.

Scalping is also a very shorter form of day trading…it takes minutes or seconds to open can close a trade.

The Best Forex Brokers?

My general advice is this:

find forex brokers that have been established a long time a go and have good reputation and governed by forex regulatory bodies find forex brokers that have offices in reputable countries like in UK, US, Canada and Australia because the regulatory compliance of these countries are much better than others..that’s why I say that. In the US, a reputable forex broker will be a member of National Futures Association (NFA) and will be registered with the U. Smodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as a futures commission merchants and retail foreign exchange dealer. In UK, forex brokers are regulated under the Financial Conduct Authority(FCA) and in Australia, forex brokers are regulated under the ASIC. also select forex brokers which have lower spreads. You trading cost increase if you have trading account with forex brokers that have huge spreads. some forex brokers also have minimum deposit they require before you can trade. Check them out before opening a trading account with them. ease of deposit as withdrawal. how many currency pairs are offered.

Best Hours To Trade Forex?

Opinions may vary but one thing is certain…its much more easier to make money trading the forex market when the fx market has volatility and momentum.

And so the when it comes to that, many forex traders like to trade the forex market during the London Session and the New Your Session.

The London forex session is where huge volume of forex transactions are made everyday which is followed next by the New Your Session.

In the Asian forex trading session, its is most often characterized by thin volumes during the day.

Its best in my opinion to trade forex during the London fx hours or during the New Your forex trading session.

Best Currency Pairs To Trade?

Choosing a currency pair to trade is very important. Here’s why:

some currency pairs do not trend very well some currency pairs only trend well during certain times during the day, for example, london and new your trading session. some currency pairs have very large spreads in excess of 3-5 pips with some forex brokers and if you trade one standard contract, that’s roughly $10-$50 loss right away after you enter a trade and price has to move by this much in the direction of your trade to make that trade breakeven. some currency pairs have very choppy characteristics which means they have tendency to spike and if your stop loss is too close, you’ll get stopped out.

How Often Do You Have To Trade?

WILL YOU HOLD POSITIONS FOR A LONG TIME? OR WILL YOU BE A DAY TRADER? Most traders are not full time traders because most will have day jobs while trading and this will often determine the type of trading a trader does from being a day trader to holding positions for a long time like a swing trader.

For some, because the forex currency market operates 24hrs during the day, they can trade after work for a few minutes or hours each day.

Your End Goal In Forex Trading.

Forex Trading Strategies Success Belongs To You.

What is your profit target, what is your stop loss, how are your going to manage a profitable trade?

Nothing is more frustrating than seeing a positive trade turn into negative and eventually into a loss. That’s why Its important to place take profit targets, your stop loss and also you plan of trailing stop activation: when and on what condition you are going to activate it.

Setting profit targets also helps you stop taking very little profits TOO EARLY.

Price will go where it wants to go. So if you have a buy trade, don’t think it will go up. That’s why you need a stop loss. Stop loss creates discipline and DON’T MOVE YOUR STOP LOSS as price heads to it…take that small loss instead a a big loss.

There’s another day to trade tomorrow. Trade for the long term…don’t trade like there’s not tomorrow.

Holy Grail Of Forex Trading?

The holy grail of Forex trading is money management . Sometimes called Trading Risk Management.

You get this one right by being disciplined and doing the right thing and what you will see it that it’s only a matter of time before you will start making good money trading forex.

What blows millions of forex trading accounts is Money Management. So doesn’t it make sense to grow yourself in getting this right?

You see, no forex trading strategy will give you 100% success rate. None. Once a trade is placed, the outcome that you want is not guaranteed because you can’t control the market price and where its going to go next! You are at the mercy of market forces of supply and demand buyers and sellers.

But what you can control is RISK. That’s the only thing you have absolute control over in a trade…your trading risk. You decide how much of your account you are going to risk in a trade.

Forex Trading Software.

These days, when you talk about Forex trading software, it can be:

What are expert advisors? Expert advisors are trading systems coded so that this program can buy or sell without any human intervention.

If you have a forex trading strategy with clear rules on when to buy and sell, it can be programmed into an expert advisor.

Now, forex indicators, on the other hands are tools that that you often find on your trading platforms that assist you making a decision to buy or sell.

Moving averages, Stochastics, MACD, just to name a few, are forex indicators.

Now, when you open a demo account or a real live account with a forex broker, the software that you use to buy or sell is called the trading platform.

Many forex brokers these days also provide the Metatrader4 trading platform. The MT4 platform is a software that is easy to download and it my opinion, one of the very easiest to understand and use.

You will in no time at all understand how to use the MT4 trading platform and off course, its free to use as well provided by the forex broker.

Be A Profitable Forex Trader.

Many traders make and lose a lot of money trading Forex.

Why because the human emotion is involved…greed and fear come into play. When your real money is on the line, you’d tend to do things you’d never do while you’d demo trade.

The temptation to trade a lot and make a lot of money “right now” is one biggest killer of forex trading acccounts.

It all comes down to controlling and managing your risk. Failure of this and you will not last long in trading forex online.

Can you make money trading Forex?

Yes and No. This is not a surprising answer. You can definitely make money. And also you can lose a lot of money.

The secret to making money in forex trading is managing your trading risk and finding a forex trading strategy that fit you.

Everything else is irrelaveant. If you can control your emotion and manage your trading risk, you will do well.

Yes, if you manage your trading risk and have balls of steel…Really, you can be profitable if you eliminate those things that sabbotage your forex trading like:

over trading risking too much not following your forex trading system’s rules not following your trading risk management plan that you had. not waiting for the right trading setups to happen before taking a trade because you are in a “rush” to take a trade.

Its these things that will make you an unprofitable Forex trader and you can lose a lot of money if not controlled.

There’s a saying ” I’ve seen the enemy…and its me.” This is very true in Forex trading. You are your worst enemy when it come to Forex trading.

If you are new trader, you will see this and think I’m lying…

But wait till you’ve trade real money for a while and you will know what I just said is true.

How much do you risk per trade?

There’s so many schools of thought about how much risk one should risk per trade. But remember this: if you risk more of your account in a single trade, it would not take long before you can wipe out your forex trading account but on the other hand, you can make a lot of money if the trade goes right.

But you are trading forex for the long term, it makes complete sense to risk a small percentage of your trading account in each trade. The reason is simple: its would take so many losing streaks to blow your forex trading account.

So what’s the best % risk?

I’d say stick to 1-2% of your account in each trade. You may even go up as 5% risk per trade. But remember, with a 5% risk per trade, all it would take is 20 consecutive losing trades and your account will be wiped out.

The more you risk the more you lose or you can make more. You play this risk management game right and you can be making a tonne of money trading forex.
